MP 582 Rock of ages
-
Rock of ages, cleft for me,
let me hide myself in Thee;
let the water and the blood,
from Thy riven side which flowed,
be of sin the double cure,
cleanse me from its guilt and power.
-
Not the labour of my hands
can fulfil Thy law’s demands;
could my zeal no respite know,
could my tears for ever flow,
all for sin could not atone;
Thou must save, and Thou alone.
-
Nothing in my hand I bring,
simply to Thy cross I cling;
naked, come to Thee for dress,
helpless, look to Thee for grace;
foul, I to the fountain fly;
wash me, Saviour, or I die.
-
While I draw this fleeting breath,
when mine eyes shall close in death,
when I soar through tracts unknown,
see Thee on Thy judgement throne;
Rock of ages, cleft for me,
let me hide myself in Thee.

MP 473 My hope is built
-
My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
no merit of my own I claim,
but wholly trust in Jesus’ name.
On Christ, the solid rock, I stand –
all other ground is sinking sand.
-
When weary in this earthly race,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
in every wild and stormy gale
my anchor holds and will not fail.
On Christ, the solid rock, I stand –
all other ground is sinking sand.
-
His vow, His covenant and blood
are my defence against the flood;
when earthly hopes are swept away
He will uphold me on that day.
On Christ, the solid rock, I stand –
all other ground is sinking sand.
-
When the last trumpet’s voice shall sound,
O may I then in Him be found!
clothed in His righteousness alone,
faultless to stand before His throne.
On Christ, the solid rock, I stand –
all other ground is sinking sand.
