1. Welcome and Intimations

  2. Prayer and Lord’s Prayer

    Our Father, who art in heaven,
    hallowed be thy name;
    thy kingdom come;
    thy will be done;
    on earth as it is in heaven.
    Give us this day our daily bread.
    And forgive us our trespasses,
    as we forgive those who trespass against us.
    And lead us not into temptation;
    but deliver us from evil.
    For thine is the kingdom,
    the power, and the glory
    for ever and ever.
    Amen.

  3. CH4 281 People, Look East

    1. People look East. The time is near
      Of the crowning of the year.
      Make your house fair as you are able,
      Trim the hearth and set the table.
      People look East, today:
      Love the Guest is on the way.

    2. Furrows, be glad. Though earth is bare,
      One more seed is planted there:
      Give up your strength the seed to nourish,
      That in course the flower may flourish.
      People look East, today:
      Love the Rose is on the way.

    3. Stars, keep the watch. When night is dim
      One more light the bowl shall brim,
      Shining beyond the frosty weather,
      Bright as sun and moon together.
      People look East, today:
      Love the Star is on the way.

    4. Angels announce to man and beast
      Him who cometh from the East.
      Set every peak and valley humming
      With the Word, the Lord is coming.
      People look East, today:
      Love the Lord is on the way.

  4. Lighting the Advent Candles

    Advent 2 — Peace

    One:
    Last Sunday we lit the candle of Hope, remembering the hope which comes in Christ. (Light Candle). Today we light the second candle of Advent, the candle of Peace.

    God has a peaceful dream for the world, and we dream it too. We dream of peaceful world full of wolves and leopards and lions eating and sleeping and dancing with lambs, kids, and calves. We dream of a peaceful world where nations come together, where war is a memory, and we eat at one table.

    We light this candle in Peace.

    All:
    On this day, we remember the Lord of All who brings peace surpassing all understanding.

    2. Matthew 3:1-12

  5. Children’s Message

  6. CH4 282 Christmas Is Coming!

    1. ‘Christmas is coming!’,
      the Church is glad to sing,
      and let the advent candles
      brightly burn in a ring.

    2. The first is for God’s promise
      to put the wrong things right,
      and bring to earth’s darkness
      the hope of love and light.

    3. The second for the prophets,
      who said that Christ would come
      with good news for many
      and angry words for some.

    4. The third is for the Baptist,
      who cried, ‘Prepare the way.
      Be ready for Jesus,
      today and every day.’

    5. The fourth is for the Virgin,
      who mothered God’s own Son
      and sang how God’s justice
      was meant for everyone.

  7. Meditation

  8. CH4 334 On Jordan’s Bank the Baptist’s Cry

    1. On Jordan's bank the Baptist's cry
      announces that the Lord is nigh.
      Awake and harken, for he brings
      glad tidings of the King of kings!

    2. Then cleansed be every life from sin:
      make straight the way for God within,
      and let us all our hearts prepare
      for Christ to come and enter there.

    3. We hail you as our Savior, Lord,
      our refuge and our great reward.
      Without your grace we waste away
      like flowers that wither and decay.

    4. Stretch forth your hand, our health restore,
      and make us rise to fall no more.
      O let your face upon us shine
      and fill the world with love divine.

    5. All praise to you, eternal Son,
      whose advent has our freedom won,
      whom with the Father we adore,
      and Holy Spirit, evermore.

  10. Prayer of Intercession

  11. MP 631 Tell out my soul, the Greatness of the Lord!

    Tune: Woodlands

    1. Tell out, my soul,
      the greatness of the Lord!
      Unnumbered blessings
      give my spirit voice;
      tender to me the promise of His word;
      in God my Saviour
      shall my heart rejoice.

    2. Tell out, my soul,
      the greatness of His name!
      Make known His might,
      the deeds His arm has done;
      His mercy sure, from age to age the same;
      His holy name, the Lord,
      the Mighty One.

    3. Tell out, my soul,
      the greatness of His might!
      Powers and dominions
      lay their glory by.
      Proud hearts and stubborn wills
      are put to flight,
      the hungry fed,
      the humble lifted high.

    4. Tell out, my soul,
      the glories of His word!
      Firm is His promise,
      and His mercy sure.
      Tell out, my soul,
      the greatness of the Lord
      to children’s children
      and for evermore!
